October 4, 2011.Finally a new painting!
“Poppies” is on a large canvas (48x60 inches) which I’ve had for over a year. I've been dying to get around to painting on it, having composed an image of poppies against a big sky in my mind since practically the day I bought the canvas. I know this subject has been painted a million times already, but I like it. I wanted to create an outrageously colourful piece to add some much needed pizaz to our newly painted living room, which is in a neutral, quiet tone. Well this definetly does that, and more! I find creating an image this large really imposes itself on you as you sit near or stand in front of it. You feel like you’re right in the landscape. My “Blue on White on Blue” large painting of aspen trees does the same thing. The canvas is so large it’s as if you could step right into the scene. I can’t believe I finally tackled this canvas! I’m pretty happy with the result, it’s a much more free, energetic, style of painting than I usually find myself attempting and I really enjoyed painting it. I think I’ll try a few more like this and put them up for sale on this site. If you need a burst of accent colour in one of your rooms, let me know! September 6, 2011.Back to the Grind. . .Well here I am, able to begin blogging, now that my kids are back at school! Summer has zoomed past and I’ll be starting another Web design course learning CSS. Hopefully this site will really start looking great once I can implement the stylesheets we see most nicely designed sites using these days. Now that I have some time I can begin painting some of the images that captivated me during the summer. I was able to spend some time cottaging in the Haliburton Highlands and Muskoka in July and August and as usual came away inspired by the skies, clouds, stars, lakes and the tall pines. Look back here in a few weeks and I’ll begin adding my new paintings. August 21, 2011.So I decided to take an HTML course. . .During my years of working as a production artist, graphic designer and illustrator, I had never yet dabbled into the somehow frightening world of web site creation. So I decided to take an HTML introduction course in basic web design. To my surprise, while it had a fair amount of challenges for a new coder and required a good deal of patience, creating a website entirely in html code wasn’t really so frightening after all! Thanks to a great teacher and suitable facilities at my local community college, I now feel pretty confident that I can keep on working on improving this web site, and eventually create sites for my clients. It’s good to be adding a new skill set to my resume. So all in all I’m glad I decided to take a HTML course. Hope you enjoy reading my blog and visiting all the pages in my very first site!
